Before the day we will have a TEAMs meeting to discuss your objectives from the day, so that the day can be tailored especially for your surgery.

Format: There are three elements to your away day and you decide the balance of the day by the time you allocate to each part

  • Discovering Potential activity – An enjoyable session that provides an opportunity to challenge and overcome self limiting beliefs
  • Have Your Say – see below
  • Facing Challenges activity – An action packed fun session that examines how approach and attitude impacts upon performance and how working within a supportive team empowers people to achieve things they never thought possible

“Have Your Say” session: Ground rules – With our experience in the training environment, we keep things friendly and focused.

  • Remember to keep things positive
  • This is your opportunity to have your say, so speak up! We believe everyone’s opinion is important
  • If you do identify an issue, offer a solution, avoid just nit picking

Typical “Have Your Say session”questions: We take great pride in being able to tailor this session to meet the needs and outcomes for your surgery

  • One thing about your job/working day that you would like other people to know that would make your day more efficient/better/easier?
  • How do you think we could improve communications within the practice?
  • What do you think we do right? How do you think we could improve?
  • Can each person give an example of a personal success or achievement within the practice they are proud of, and would like to share with others?

Activities

“Discovering Potential”

On your team building away day the first session, “Rediscovering Potential” is crucial to the success of your day. Not only has this session got to deliver powerful messages about how working together as a united team improves performance but it also has to set the tone for the day.

We use a method based on art and painting to achieve this. Working in groups of four, participants mark themselves on how well they think they will reach the required standard. On completion they mark their finished work – these scores are always higher than their original estimate.

“Facing Challenges”

We use the teaching of circus skills (juggling, plate spinning, flower stick and diabolo) to create a level playing field and once again people mark their expectations beforehand and how well they actually did at the end of the session.

This session is always lots of fun, full of “magic moments” and with lots of learning about how working together as a team can improve the overall outcome.

After your Away Day You will be sent written feedback on

  • Before and after scores for both activities and how they compare to the data collected over a twelve year period
  • Our observations on how the day went with references to the behaviour observed on the day
  • When appropriate, suggestions on how you can use this experience as a springboard for moving the surgery forward
